Emily Boros-Rausch is a Toronto-born, Moncton-based artist whose work explores the intersections of textiles, painting, design, and personal narrative. She graduated from OCAD University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Design in theMaterial Art and Design program. Emily’s artistic journey has been shaped by her life experience, travels, and her experiences working with communities around the world.
Born with a rare genetic skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), Emily has faced many challenges throughout her life. Emily has formed meaningful friendships within the EB community and is constantly inspired by the strength and courage of others navigating this condition. Her personal journey fuels her commitment as a rare disease advocate, and she proudly serves on the Board of Debra Canada, as well as a leader on the Debra International Youth Council.
Proud of her Hungarian heritage, Emily holds Hungarian citizenship, and some of her most cherished memories are of spending time in Budapest with her beloved Nagymama (grandmother.) These experiences continue to influence her work, grounding her practice in themes of identity, memory, and connection to culture.
After her graduation, Emily was accepted into the Imagination Catalyst program, where she expanded her thesis on medical textiles. In 2016, she spent several months backpacking through Europe, including a solo hike along the Camino Trail in the Pyrenees Mountains from France to Spain, which deepened her connection to nature and is a big theme in her paintings.
In 2017, Emily moved to Goa, India, where she worked with Tara Trust, a non-profit organization, developing an income-generation textile program for women. After helping launch the program, Emily relocated to Australia in 2018, where she continued her work on her art practice and held a small solo watercolour exhibition in Melbourne.
After living in Australia Emily and her partner backpacked their way home to Canada. From 2019-2024 Emily worked as the Creative Director for MiaThrives, a Canadian non-profit organization. Emily also followed her passion for nature and achieved a Garden Design Certificate from George Brown Collage.
Now based in Moncton, New Brunswick, Emily enjoys the slower pace of life with her husband, two children, and dog. Working full-time as a visual artist from her home studio, she has recently focused on creating large-scale abstract paintings that incorporate textiles she collected during her travels. These textiles add layers of personal history and cultural narrative to her work, blending her passion for design with the rich textures and colours of the world around her.
